A public plaza and commercial spaces are located at ground level of Hangzhou Future Green City, and dip into the first basement level to make the space more open and airy. It is a vibrant, lively place where residents, users of the building and passers-by can interact and enjoy leisure time and performances, exhibitions and other events can take place in a generous open-air, yet partly sheltered, area.
.
WOHA’s design for a large mixed-use development at the centre of Hangzhou’s historic Shi Ban Qiao district won the design competition that was a part of the Hangzhou Future City project.
.
It is part of a large-scale urban regeneration development, and transforms an area in the old city centre into a vibrant community.
.
It is a prototype that adds density, rejuvenates and elevates districts by enriching cultural, community and commercial life, integrates ample greenery and also preserves and adapts historical landmarks.
.
It offers community and commercial spaces, an activity deck and a sky park as well as residential units and talent housing. The holistic approach integrates the different programmes 3- dimensionally in five “layers”.

The biophilic environment of the rooftop parks and landscaped public spaces offers a healthy and relaxing environment that encourages people to socialise, but also be more aware of our climate crisis, inspiring them to form a closer relationship with nature.

At Hangzhou Future Green City the community plaza and commercial spaces are at ground level, parts of it dipping down into the first basement level to create more vertical space. The talent housing makes up the next layer and is topped by a sports park where residents can exercise. The residential apartments make up the next layer which is crowned by the rooftop parks.
.
Sky bridges link the different blocks and allow residents and users of the building to easily navigate the building at different levels.

The building is breezy and feels light, despite its high density. It is porous and allows for natural ventilation, encouraging residents to spend time outdoors and socialise.

Another great shot of #kampungadmiralty by the talented @alexgmoments.
.
This year’s #earthday theme is “Restore our Earth”. For us this also means restoring a balance between urban spaces, humans and nature.
.
Kampung Admiralty is a project very close to our hearts because it incorporates a lot of our #sustainable and #regenerative strategies for a healthy and happy built environment in which we can co-exist with nature.
.
A study conducted by @bioseasg showed that the diverse planting scheme of the rooftop park and #urbanfarm has attracted lots of birds, butterflies and other small animals. It actually has more biodiversity than comparable urban parks at ground level.
.
Kampung Admiralty is a #prototype for Singapore’s public housing. Though designed for senior residents, it is an integrated development that is attractive to people of all ages, its amenities and location in close proximity to public transport make it a vibrant and lively place at ground level, and a calm and biophilic haven at the higher levels.

Across the world, we are facing the challenges of housing our growing ageing populations in life-affirming communities.
.
Kampung Admiralty is the prototype of a public housing development which offers solutions to these challenges by providing senior citizens with affordable housing as well as all the amenities and services that are needed to lead an active life - all within a highly biophilic environment.

Reposting this great video by @beixin: Have you been here? 🍃 Designed by @woha_architects, PARKROYAL on Pickering is an iconic green structure with a hotel-in-a-garden design concept. With 15,000 square metres of sky-gardens, waterfalls, planter terraces and cascading vertical greenery, the lush foliage constitutes more than 200% of the total land area, a scale unprecedented in a built-up city centre. Pretty impressive, I’d say. Thank you for the lovely stay and the eco-tour, @bookingcom & @parkroyalpickering. 🌳 ...

Applecross is known for quiet leafy streets and neighbourhood charm. Inspired by its surroundings, this project does not eat up the leafy, green suburbs. The design keeps everything that is charming about Applecross - the Jacarandas dripping with purple flowers, the beautiful gardens, the backyards and barbecue pits – and envisages the building as an environment, creating gardens that extend into the sky and a seamless connection between exterior and interior.
.
@forbesresidences is designed as a three-dimensional “vertical suburb” that contains liveable, generous homes, shared facilities, common spaces within gardens, natural light and fresh air that weave throughout every level.
.
“Hanging gardens” drape the podium form and extend up the roof. They preserve the garden suburb quality, create greater privacy, frame views, and enhance sociability. They also perform meaningful environmental services that benefit not just the development site, but the district – reducing the heat island effect, reducing noise and dust, preventing glare, and providing a habitat for biodiversity.
.
When the Jacarandas are in bloom, the building will be covered in a canopy of vibrant purple flowers. The leafy greenery that characterises Applecross will flow seamlessly through the building, capturing the essence of the neighbourhood.
